BAGAUDA-LAKE CAMPUS

Historical background

Established in 1987, the Campus is a product of the tripartite agreement and saw the commencement of training activities in 1988. The Campus served as a department and the training wing of  the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation(NTDC) and gained autonomy in 1998. The mandate of the Campus as an Institute is to provide technical skills and craft manpower for the hotel, catering and tourism workforce in Nigeria.

The training services rendered cuts across training the trainers; Basic Certificate and Professional  Management Courses; Mobile training workshops and consultancy services in Hotel, Catering, Travel and Tourism specialised operations.

Location

Located 50 kilometres away from Kano along Jos road.

Campus Facilities

Accommodation:

A decent 40 rooms sleeping accommodation is available at the NIHOTOUR. Bagauda Lake Campus for now to cater for our students. Other zonal campuses run non-residential but regular and non regular programmes and courses.

In addition to the above Bagauda-Lake Campus has the leased Rock Castle Hotel, Tiga with about 23 rooms ranging from the single, double, queen, king and honey-mooner's rooms.

Restaurant/out dour catering services:

There are restaurant and outdoor catering services for regular meals and facilities for conferences, seminars and workshops including social functions or ceremonies.

Sport and Recreation:

NIHOTOUR Bagauda Campus has sports facilities at the various campuses for indoor/outdoor games like table tennis, badminton, volley ball, draft, ludo, whot card, etc. There is also a video/viewing centre where students/course participants are encouraged to fully utilize those facilities.

Secretarial Services:

The following secretarial services at rock bottom prices are available for public patronage and request by Clients in the areas of:

 

  • Reprographic Services
  • Typesetting
  • Photocopying
  • Stationery items
  • Audio-Visual Aids
  • Video recording
  • Photography
  • Audio recording
  • Other training support aids
  • Internet Café service
  • Administrative support services for conferences, workshops and seminars, etc.

 

Transportation:

Shuttle buses and motorcycles operate between township and the campuses for staff and participants.

Resource Persons:

The institute has specialist resource persons for all the programmes/courses organized and run. In addition, external resource persons from the public and private sectors area invited to share their wealth of experiences to bridge the gap between the theoretical and practical practices of the industrial schemes. Such personalities are invited for course and module delivery, rapporteuring and tour guides.

Library:

The libraries in the campuses and schools are fairly stocked with relevant books, journals and other materials. The opening hours cover 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays; 9.00 a.m too 2.00 p.m on Saturdays.

Medical Services:

The institute's healthcare services at Bagauda Lake delivered by qualified and experienced physicians aside patronage of approved government hospitals to handle all health matters. Consultancy services are also rendered to students/participants. However, should health bill or charges be over and above the normal level absorbed lay the institute, excesses will be passed to sponsors of the wards.

Publications:

NIHOTOUR's activities are published in the form of booklets, position papers, journals, and newspaper publications.

Public Relations:

Those requiring such services coved have arrangements made for general event management and effective co-ordination, opening and closing ceremonies, press coverage, and other media features.

Audio-visual services are also available and by a team of experienced staff and provided at a subsidized and reasonable charges.

Mini Market:

Well stocked mini-mart operates within the campuses' vicinities to cater for the immediate needs of students and staff of the institute.

Other Facilities:

Some of the facilities and services available for board meetings, workshops, seminars and corporate meeting at the Bagauda-Lake campus include:

  • Syndicate Room (Seating 12);
  • Office Space;
  • Charges are negotiable and reasonable.

 

Practical  Experience

To keep students and other trainees abreast with practical experiences in real operational situations in the industry, NIHOTOUR maintains the Tiga, Rock Castle Resort in Tiga Kano State and other professional establishments for students' practical exercises in hospitality, travel, transport and tourism aside industrial attachments and education tours of travel, tourism and hospitality establishments across the nation.

The Institute Resource Persons are also exposed to industrial operations for cross fertilization of ideas and exchange of experience to bridge the gap between the ideal and reality in classroom lectures and instructions.

Nigeria Hotel and Catering Schools

Background:

The establishment of the Schools came into effect in 1963 through the bilateral agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to have the Hotel and Catering Schools situated in Lagos, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna, Nigeria respectively. The then Ministry of Trade and Industry was the executor of the project. The main aim of  the School is to provide the much needed skills and development for the nascent hotel, catering and tourism industry and the citizenry.

Objectives

 

  • To train middle level manpower for the hotel and similar institutions;
  • To train men and women to be self reliant in the catering industry and encourage the establishment of private catering outfit;
  • To train housewives in the art of cookery, thus improving the quality of meals prepared for their families which will invariably lead to improved health of the citizenry.
