BENUE STATE TO COLLABORATE WITH NIHOTOUR TO GROW ITS TOURISM POTENTIALS

The Benue State Government has called on the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), to partner with the government in manpower training in the hospitality and tourism industry of the state.

The Governor of Benue State who made the call when the Director General of the Institute, Mrs. Chika Balogun paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Makurdi, said the state government is prepared to support NIHOTOUR to establish a training centre of the Institute in Makurdi, the state capital.

Governor Samuel Ortom observed that workers in the state hospitality and tourism industry must be equipped with the relevant skills through formal training if the state is to adequately harness its tourism potentials and fully benefit there from both socially and economically.

The Governor, who expressed his desire for the immediate take off of training programmes  in the   state,said his government  has already identified a temporary training facility centre to be used by the Institute,while logistics for the acquisition of a permanent site is being worked out.

In her address earlier, Mrs Chika Balogun, Director General of NIHOTOUR said the Institute has  the core mandate of providing skill training in the hospitality and tourism sub sector not only in Nigeria, but the entire West  African  sub region,adding that NIHOTOUR  will  not  leave  any  stone unturned in offering the training services needs in the industry anywhere needed in the country.

Mrs Balogun stated that her visit to Benue State is a clear demonstration of the preparedness of the Institute to assist the state in its efforts to develop the state tourism potentials including the manpower needed to effectively and efficiently drive the industry for greater successes.

She thanked the Government and people of Benue State for the confidence reposed in the Institute, and promised that NIHOTOUR will deliver unfailingly and to the admiration of all stakeholders of the industry in the state.
