KADUNA GOVERNMENT COLLABORATES WITH NIHOTOUR TO EXPLORE STATE TOURISM POTENTIALS

The Kaduna State Government has called on the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), to bring its expertise as a training and research centre,to bear on efforts by the state to explore its tourism potentials to boost its social and economic development.

Making the call when Mrs. Chika  Balogun,Director General of the Institute paid him a courtesy visit in his office,Kaduna,Alhaji Shehu Balarabe,Kaduna State Commissioner for Commerce,Industry and Tourism,said Kaduna State is richly endowed with vast tourism resources and the State Government is more than ever before,set to tap the tourism resources to promote social and economic activities in the state and by extension,generate revenue for the state.

Alhaji Balarabe said the decision by the state to venture into the development of its hospitality and tourism sub sector was borne out of the desire of the Malam Nasir El-Rufai’s administration to diversify the economic base of  the state and earn income from the sector as well as to boost the state revenue base.

He said the Ministry will arrange for the  Director General to address the State Executive Council on the way forward as an all inclusive way of harnessing the tourism potentials of Kaduna State and its vibrancy to impact positively on the economy of the state,promising to extend an invitation to NIHOTOUR to  that effect soon.

Earlier in her speech, Mrs.  Chika  Balogun, Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR),buttressed the tourism potentials of Kaduna state which she said is rich in both pre colonial and colonial historical relics as the seat of colonial and post colonial administration of Northern Nigeria and expressed the readiness of NIHOTOUR to partner with the state government in carrying out the needful towards harnessing the tourism potentials of the state for the social and economic benefits of the people.

Mrs Chika Balogun said however,for the state to effectively explore and exploit its potentials in tourism, there is need for the state to enact a Tourism Policy which will lead to evolving a tourism road map of the state through the production of a Tourism Master Plan,adding that having a tourism master plan in the kitty,makes it easier and efficient to tap the state tourism resources.
