Mrs Chika Balogun, Director General National Institute For Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) - promises suport for miss tourism anambra state



The need to explore the rich and diverse Igbo culture for the socio-economic benefits of its people in particular and Nigeria as a whole has once again been brought to the fore by Mrs. Chika Balogun, Director General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR).

Mrs Balogun who made the call when she visited the traditional ruler of Enugwu Ukwu na Igwe Umunri in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra state, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh at his Obu Okpala na Kana Palace, stated that Anambra State has the widest, diverse and rich cultural sites and festivals capable of enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.

The Director General stated that NIHOTOUR’s main concern is in the area of manpower and capacity development needed to run hospitality outfits and tourism/cultural sites and products in a manner that would make them commercially and economically viable to the state, adding that the existence of tourism and cultural products in the state is not in doubt, what is however lacking is the right professionals needed to effectively harnessed these products for sustainable economic development.

Mrs Balogun therefore enjoined the traditional institution and the state government to initiate plans for effective professional manpower training of the people needed to take charge of the state Hospitality and Tourism industry for the socio-economic benefits of the state.

Welcoming the Director General and her entourage to his Palace, Igwe Ralph Obumneme Ekpeh, Eze Enugwu Ukwu na Igwe Umunri said that as custodian of the culture and tradition of the Igboland, promoting them for the good of the people is his cardinal priority, promising that the traditional institution of Enugwu Ukwu is solidly behind the Director General and her Institute in the efforts to bring about a new dawn in the exploration of the tourism and hospitality potentials of Anambra State.

Igwe Ekpe while promising to make available whatever infrastructural facilities required for the take off of the Institute’s training Campus in his domain, said the Director General should see his domain as her home and will do everything possible to ensure the realization of her vision and mission to make Anambra State a Tourist hub of the country.

Also speaking at the Igwe’s Palace, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke who stated the commitment of the State government in developing the state tourism resources disclosed that the government has invested heavily in making Anambra State the destination of choice to both local and international tourists.

Dr. Okeke promised the readiness of the state government to partner with NIHOTOUR in its efforts to uplift the business of Hospitality and Tourism industry of the country to the level that is par with global best practices for the economic benefit of the people.

Both Mrs Chika Balogun of NIHOTOUR and Dr. Nkem Okeke, Deputy Governor of Anambra State were at the Palace of Igwe Ralph Obumneme Ekpeh, Eze Enugwu Ukwu na Igwe Umunri for an interactive session with the traditional Monarch and members of his cabinet on the way forward to grow the tourism potentials of the state.
