Impact of Terrorism on Tourism in Nigeria

Terrorism has been an insidious act common and conducted daily over decades and has been responsible for the physical and or structural violence experienced by many people in Nigeria. The preponderance of terrorists’ activities in recent times especially those conducted by boko haram affects Nigeria populace at large. The impact hampers tourism negatively and jeopardizes national security, peace, unity and development of the country. This paper seeks to find out the extent to which Boko Haram insurgency has affected the socio economic situation in the northern states of Nigeria. During the course of the study, it was discovered that the insecurity situation in the northern part of Nigeria was so high that many lives and properties were damaged thereby creating negative notion in the mind of tourists.
